It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
